Throughout the New Jersey football scene the Palmyra Panthers are known to be a force to be dealt with. The Panthers are coming off a 7-3 season with a big win over Burlington City in the final. The Panthers are looking to build on that success going into the 2011 season. Expectations are for another winning season and expectations are high for future star Peter DeGeorge.
Peter DeGeorge is coming off a sophomore season in which he was used in multiple ways. During the 2010 season Peter DeGeorge lined up on offensive, defensive and special teams. Teams were caught off guard to see him taking snaps, playing linebacker and kicking extra points as only a sophomore. Peter DeGeorge looks to expand on those skills going into the 2011 season where he should see more opportunities on both sides of the ball.
Expect Peter DeGeorge to take hold of the kicking job early on in camp next year. Peter’s ability to boom the ball will be an advantage for the Panthers. Peter DeGeorge should be able to take over kickoffs and field goal attempts for the next two seasons. His ability to go down and cover kicks will give the Panthers an advantage over any team in the division.
On offense
Peter DeGeorge will be competing for the quarterback position in camp this year. People are expecting Peter DeGeorge to make a strong case for the starting job this coming season. This year being his junior year will give him the maturity to handle the position and allow him to grow and be ready to take the lead in his senior campaign. We are expecting great things after successful outings in practice for Peter DeGeorge.
Nobody is exactly sure how much defense he will play if he is the starting quarterback. The defensive coordinator for the Panthers is hoping that he gets to use him on a regular basis. Peter DeGeorge has shown in his time on the field that he has a nose for the ball. Peter has been playing linebacker for the past two years and his knowledge of the defense will make him a large asset to the Panthers in the middle of the defense.
The Palmyra Panthers are looking to keep going on the ground after last year’s success running the ball. Most people in the area weren’t surprised as the school has a history of great rushing games. In the finally the Panthers were treated to a 349 year outburst from Derek Dyer on 16 carries with five touchdowns. That record setting performance eclipsed the previous record of Derek Holloway back in 1978.
Yes it is true that the future of Palmyra Panther football looks bright. Experts are suggesting that this could be one of their better teams in recent years. With the emergence of players such as
Peter DeGeorge and many more on both sides of the ball they should be competitive at all aspects. This writer can’t wait for next season to start so we can see Peter DeGeorge in action along with the rest of the Panthers.
